Lou Millington was walking her dog when she saw the incident happen in Fencepiece Road, Barkingside at about 8.50am on Tuesday.

A young woman crashed into the windscreen of the car and was left badly bruised.

“I was going to get some bread from the shop when I heard a loud bang,” Ms Millington said.

“I went over to check if she was all right and she asked me to stay with her and hold her hand. I was just doing my duty.”

The injured woman, who is in her 20s, was taken to Whipps Cross Hospital, Leytonstone.

Ms Millington remained with the victim, who was badly shaken up by the incident, until the emergency services arrived.

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said an ambulance and single response vehicle were sent to the scene.
