Woman in hospital after Goodmayes crash at junction where resident predicted ‘a dreadful accident’

A woman was trapped in her car after a collision with another vehicle in Goodmayes yesterday afternoon.
The crash was at the junction of Airthrie Road and Green Lane around 4.15pm.
The 31-year-old had to be released from the car by officers from two fire engines called to the scene.
A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “She had sustained back and neck injuries and was taken to Queen’s Hospital, Romford.”
Road markings at the junction, opposite Goodmayes Primary School, have been criticised by local residents.
Former Goodmayes Residents’ Association chairman Jim O’Halloran has asked the council to paint double yellow lines to prevent cars parking near the corner.
In an email last month, he said: “I fear a dreadful accident will occur one day.”
Current GRASS chairman Keith Stanbury has written to Redbridge Council highways manager Mike Woodward demanding action.
He said: “We’ve been on about it for months and this crash has proved it was dangerous with the parking.
“With the school outside this was an accident waiting to happen.”
The Recorder is awaiting a response from council.
