Wanstead Park could soon get its first ever cycle route as the City of London Corporation seeks public views.

After being approached by cycling groups, the Corporation, which owns the park, is considering introducing a designated route through the park.

It would make it safer for cyclists to get between Aldersbrook and Wanstead avoiding busy roads.

Byelaws for the park from 1950 allow for a portion of the park as indicated by signage to be set aside for cycling.

Paul Thomson, the Corporation’s superintendent at Epping Forest, said:

“Following discussions with a range of local community groups over the past 18 months, we have launched a public consultation to explore the potential for offering shared use routes.”

The consultation period has been doubled from two to four weeks and opens on Saturday.

It runs until August 12.
