David Lawrence, 53, of Wanstead, along with a team of Royal Marines, will attempt to break the world record for the fastest ever Speed March Marathon to raise money for the Royal Marines Association.

The team has undertaken a punishing training regime to ensure the success of the 26-mile challenge on November 10.

Prime Minister David Cameron and wife Samantha, will address the teams and wave them off as they depart from Downing Street.

The Commandos, who will also be carrying kit and weapons weighing more than 40lbs, hope to complete the route in under four hours and 19 minutes.

“The march provides an opportunity to raise vital funds for Commando 999 and The Royal Marines Association, celebrate the Royal Marines’ work of the past 350 years and make the public aware of the brilliant work they do,” said Mark Scoular, former Royal Marine and founder of Commando 999.
