Jazzie B will be headlining the Soul Legend concert at Central Park on Saturday night as part of Under the Stars

Music lovers are in a for a treat with the return of a four-day music extravaganza that promises to spoil everyone with a spectacular line-up of artists.

Love music? Who doesn’t? Then you are in a for a treat with the return of a four-day extravaganza that promises to spoil everyone with a spectacular line-up of artists to please all tastes.

Back comes the music fest known as Under the Stars to see out the August bank holiday weekend. And it’s free to all.

It kicks off tomorrow, Thursday, with a jazz night when Julian Joseph leads a phenomenal 20-piece big band featuring greats such as Pete King, Mark Modesir and Jean Toussaint.

The evening will also include sets from Cleveland Watkiss, Soweto Kinch and Carleen Anderson. On top of that, you can expect to see the Alexander Stewart Quintet – dubbed the UK’s answer to Michael Bublé.

The gates at Central Park, East Ham, will open at 6.30pm and those attending are advised to make their way there using public transport.

Eastern beats

Friday will be dedicated to eastern beats and the night’s entertainment will be hosted by BBC Asian Network’s breakfast DJ Tommy Sandhu and drive-time host Noreen Khan, who together promise to serve up the best in Asian music.

This will include Alaap with the godfather of British bhangra, Channi Singh, and the princess of Punjabi pop, Mona Singh. The daughter of Channi Singh has followed in her father’s footsteps and had a top 20 hit in the mainstream charts with Basement Jaxx and Dizzie Rascal.

Such an event would not be complete without one of the biggest names on the international Asian music scene, H-Dhami, who will be thrilling the crowds along with Kiran Dhanoa, the Sapnay School of Dance, Avina Shah, D-Sarb, Shide Boss, Navin Kundra and Raxstar.

On Saturday, soul legends take centre stage, with the bill topped by the legendary Nineties soul-funk collective Soul II Soul, headed up by Jazzie B.

Soul supremo Omar will perform classic hits with a live band and Eighties soul hero Junior Giscombe will complete the unbelievable line-up. DJs James Anthony and Ash Selector will host the evening.

The music fest will reach its colourful climax on Sunday with the traditional Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra performance and fireworks to bring the festival to a close with Jerusalem and Rule Britannia.

Last year the festival was enjoyed by 30,000 people.
