Neighbour Minal Gadhavi, 33, heard a loud bang just after 1pm on Tuesday. She said: “It narrowly missed a woman who was walking past who had just been to drop her kids off. I thought that could have been us.”

A large group of residents gathered outside the house last night to watch the truck being removed.

Mrs Gadhavi said: “It took them a long time, they did it bit by bit. Another lorry truck pulled it out slowly slowly. They have supported it with scaffolding but there’s still contractors working there.”

The A12 Eastern Avenue between Beehive Lane and the Redbridge Roundabout was fully reopened at 9.30pm yesterday.Eyewitness Kevin Carr said he saw the tipper truck collide with a “parked” car before driving over the central reservation and hitting the house.

Mr Carr, 52, of Basildon, said: “It just unfolded in front of you like a film. I had visions of someone dead in that house. It went into on coming traffic, it was amazing they all managed to miss him.”
