A seven-strong team of Woodford police officers are preparing to take on a 100km trek for charity.

They will be putting on their walking shoes in June for Blind Veterans UK’s London to Brighton challenge, which sees participants cover the distance within 24 hours.

Sgt Jez Tyler, who is leading the team, said: “I got a letter from Blind Veterans UK and thought it would be a great way to challenge myself and support the charity.

“The level of commitment from my officers has been absolutely amazing, there’s even one Pc who’s planning to do it just two months after she’s due to give birth!”

The walk will see the group start off in Putney and finish up at the charity’s centre in Ovingdean, Brighton.

Jez, who used to be in the Army, added: “As police officers we have an empathy with the military, we have a similar sense of camaraderie and understand the importance of being able to trust that our colleagues have our backs.

“I think it is going to be a fantastic way for us to test ourselves and will be good for team morale.”
