Street party fever will grip Redbridge during celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and there is just a week left to request for your road to be closed for a bash.

The Big Jubilee Lunch on Sunday, June 3 will coincide with the day a flotilla of 1,000 boats take to the River Thames for a celebratory procession marking the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.

Residents have until Friday next week (April 20) to seek permission from Redbridge Council to have their road closed. The local authority is pledging not to levy charges.

Cllr Ruth Clark said: “We’ve got a transient community and it would be nice to get to know our neighbours.”

On the same day as the street parties, town centres will lay on entertainment.

Funding towards parties for items such as trestle tables and bunting could also be provided by the council’s area committees.

They have set aside more than £11,000 to help residents and community groups stage their events.

The council has received 28 applications for street parties so far.
