A South Woodford bar has given up on its latest attempt to extend its opening hours on days including Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
The management of Funky Mojoe in High Road, South Woodford, had applied for four temporary event notices on August 27, October 29 and the Christmas dates to sell alcohol until 2am.
But Redbridge Council confirmed this morning that the application had been withdrawn.
The club applied for six notices earlier in the year to stay open until 3am which were also withdrawn.
Funky Mojoe has been the subject of discussion at two busy public meetings in South Woodford this year at which residents raised concerns about anti-social behaviour associated with the venue. A spokesman for the Woodford Action Group, a residents’ group which opposed the latest application, said: “It is great news that Funky Mojoe has failed in its bid to inflict even more late-night nuisance on residents, many of whom are elderly and vulnerable.
“We would hope that the council will now see fit to review this nightclub’s licence and move to cut it’s opening hours so that it is no longer a public nuisance.”
The management of the club is not willing to comment on the application.
