Sikhs in the City hold their sixth relay marathon in Redbridge

A running club held its sixth relay marathon at the weekend in which teams of five and seven ran a gruelling 26 miles.
Sikhs in the City, who organise the marathon, began the challenge in Roding Lane South, Redbridge, and runners took in Woodford Bridge Road, Lodge Hill and Woodford Avenue before returning to the start point on Sunday.
The East London Runners team won with a time of two hours 38 minutes, with the Singh Sabha Barking team finishing in second place in two hours 53 minutes.
For the fourth consecutive year, organiser Harmander Singh won a grandfather grandchild race beating his uncle, Harbhag Singh, with a finishing time of 13 minutes and 44 seconds, over a 2km distance.
101-year-old runner Fauja Singh took part in a team called the Centenarian’s Squad, which finished the marathon in four hours 39 minutes.
Harmander Singh said: “We would like to thank everyone who took part, those who came to support and the first-aiders.”
