A litter of fox cubs is making one woman in Seven Kings feel that she is “giving the garden over to the foxes”.

Residents in Pembroke Road are fed up with rubbish being continually left strewn across gardens by a family of foxes.

They said they have tried everything from buying a device which omits a high-pitched noise to putting spices down in their gardens.

Wendy Hillier, who is in her 70s, said: “It all started when the cubs were born about a month ago and all the bushes in my garden were flattened.

“My neighbour’s vegetables were all completely flattened and he’s now barricaded his garden so they can’t get in.”

Since the four cubs were born they been leaving rubbish every day. Miss Hillier said: “There are always dirty nappies. I’m a pensioner and it’s a nuisance to keep going out. We feel we have given the garden over to the foxes. There’s no point in putting plants in the garden any more.”

In the same street, Ilene French, also in her 70s, said: “Every morning there’s rubbish in the garden. There’s lots of dirty nappies and we can’t make out where they’re coming from. It’s just awful.”

The residents say they have contacted Redbridge Council but the cost of having the foxes trapped is too high.

Miss Hillier said: “The council gave me the phone number of a company, but it costs more than £100 and there’s no guarantee they won’t come back.”

The council website says: “If you find a fox in the garden, it is your responsibility to have it removed.”
