Tom Davies, 63, of Cobham Road, Seven Kings, built interiors for a house including bedrooms, a kitchen and a living room with a team of six people in April.

He was told it would be used during the Games but it wasn’t until he watched the ceremony in Stratford’s Olympic Stadium on television on Friday that he saw his handiwork.

Scenes of a family having a party were filmed inside the house and the footage was then used during the spectacular show.

Mr Davies, whose credits include set-building on Alien and recent work on Tim Burton-directed film Dark Shadows, said: “I was wondering what they’d use it for.

“I was quite pleased that it was part of it.

“I was impressed with all of the ceremony and I’m quite proud.”

Working for Palace Scenery, Mr Davies helped to build timber walls and the rooms which were then decorated.

The team also built a separate roof which was used for an attic scene of a young couple dancing.
