Pupils of the Ilford Jewish Primary School (IJPS), in Forest Road, Barkingside, performed at the Boys Town Jerusalem Primary Schools’ Choral Festival in north Finchley.

A total of 35 Year 4 to 6 children entertained the audience with three songs, Yerushalayim Shel Zehav, Adon Olam, which incorporated the IJPS school song Na’aseh V’nishmah, and a Yiddish song, Ofyn Pripetchik.

Boys Town Jerusalem is one of Israel’s leading educational and residential developments.

About 900 Jewish boys and young men from 12-20 study and live on the 18-acre campus. They come from financially poor backgrounds, or countries where they have been subjected to anti-Semitic attacks.

Head of Jewish studies, Deborah Harris, said: “We have been involved with the charity since 2007.

“It was excellent. The children made us all very proud and it went very smoothly.

“The children were so excited as it was the first time on stage for a lot of them.”

Deborah added that their work with the charity helps teach the children about looking out for other people less fortunate.

“It’s just another way of helping others through giving charity and teaching the children they can be responsible for helping the boys in the school in Israel.”
