Restaurants with a low food hygiene score are being allowed to carry on trading, was the message from a former borough councillor.

The London Scores on the Doors, which was launched in 2007 supported by the Food Standards Agency, publishes food hygiene rating data for all restaurants and takeaways in the area.

Gary Staight, speaking at Monday’s area committee five meeting at the Keith Axon Centre, Grove Road, Chadwell Heath, called for action.

He said: “Premises with a score of zero, one or two stars are still trading when corrective action is supposed to be required before the premises are allowed to continue. The body in charge is clearly not acting.”

According to the list, 10 food outlets scored less than three.

Cllr Ali Hai added: “We need to actively follow-up on the scores and enforce the measures.

“Takeaways are not directly responsible and it is about time we got them into shape.”

It was also noted that a small number of premises, which are believed to serve food, were missed off the list and should be added.
