Pop-up swap-shops will be opening around the borough over the coming week to celebrate national Recycle Week.

Participants will have the chance to pick up free books, CDs and clothing during the Give and Take Days around the borough.

Also up for grabs are toys, kitchenware and sport equipment.

Residents can drop off items they no longer need and pick up something they do want instead.

The days will be held on:

* Ilford Islamic Centre, Albert Road, Ilford, on Saturday from 11am to 3.30pm

* Valentines Mansion and Gardens Emerson Road, Ilford on Sunday from 11am to 3.30pm

* Gants Hill United Reformed Church, Woodford Avenue, Gants

Hill on Thursday from 11am to 3.30pm

* Orchard Estate, Broadmead Road, Woodford Green on June 23 from noon to 4.30pm

June, 12pm to 4.30pm.

* Prince of Wales pub, Green Lane, Ilford on June 24 from 1.30pm to 4pm

Brick Lane Comedy Festival cancelled after opposition from community groups

A comedy festival in east London due to feature acts including Al Murray, Alan Davies and Ed Byrne has been cancelled because of “heavy opposition from local community groups”.
