Stand-out students from Palmer Catholic Academy, Seven Kings, included Gerard Jones, 18, of Wanstead, who got an A* in English, and A’s in maths and French.

Student Ameenul Islam, 18, of Ilford, received A’s all-round in maths, biology and chemistry and Joseph McParland, 18, of Newbury Park, got an A* in maths, an A in chemistry and a B in further maths.

Star student Mr Jones said: “I want to shout out my English teacher Ms Aye, she’s been the most amazing help, she’s been brilliant.”

Palmer assistant headteacher Nomso Oranu said: “We’re delighted with the results - our A* to A grades are up 2.4 per cent up against recent years and our A* to C is up 2.3 per cent.

“It’s our best results ever and a testament to the hard work of our students and teachers.”
