A high-flyer who missed out on a university place is remaining upbeat after achieving strong A-levels.
Monica Naher, 18, was not successful in applying for medicine courses, but is “excited” after bagging an A* in biology and As in chemistry and psychology.
She said: “I was shocked. I didn’t expect biology to be that high - I expected to fail that one!”
When the Recorder spoke to the teenager, she had not revealed her good news to her parents, but hoped they would be “happy”.
Despite being disappointed when her university application was unsuccessful, Monica now believes a gap year will be a rewarding experience.
She said: “I will reapply next year, but this year I will be working in Cambodia for a few months.
“I am excited and actually think it is a blessing in disguise.”
