Each of the years at Roding Primary School, Roding Lane North dressed in a particular colour raising about £200 for deaf charities.

The rainbow marked the end of a week of events which included a workshop with the choreographer of the opening ceremony of Paralympics.

Teacher of the deaf Debbie Wotton, said: “The whole week went really successfully, we invited the parents on one morning and lots of them said how much they had learned. “We also had hearing dogs for the blind which the younger children loved.”

The idea behind the week was to promote awareness and give the children better understanding of the difficulties associated with being unable to hear.

Ms Wotton said: “Most of the children and teachers are really good but I think this week will remind all of them how to communicate with deaf children.

“You can already see children facing the deaf children when they speak so that they can lip read.”

The rainbow was created on June 1.
