The police have today announced measures being taken to ensure people enjoy safe Halloween and Bonfire Night festivities in Redbridge.

The borough, as with the other 31 London boroughs, has a police plan in place to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour [ASB] over the period.

Measures being taken across the capital include holding joint presentations in schools with the London Fire Brigade; sending letters to known ASB offenders to warn them they could face eviction if they cause trouble and after-school patrols at hot-spot areas such as town centres.

Met Police Commander Mak Chishty said: “We are here for London and to help make sure that everyone can enjoy the festivities and stay safe.

“I would like to stress that our operations are not aimed at demonising young people, the large majority of whom behave safely and responsibly.

“However those intent on committing crime and anti-social behaviour will face the consequences.”

The police are using screening arches to deter people from carrying weapons and will take part in test purchase operations regarding the sale of fireworks and petrol.

The safer transport command unit, funded by Transport for London, will carry out extra high-visibilty patrols on public transport this week and next.
