Obstructive parking leads to new restrictions in two South Woodford roads

Two roads in South Woodford will see the introduction of extra parking controls after councillors voted in favour of measures.

Following complaints from residents about obstructive parking, a consultation was held and proposals drawn up for Hermon Hill and Chigwell Road, which were presented to the area committee two meeting last week.

The two roads are between two areas of the South Woodford controlled parking zone and have only limited sections of single yellow line waiting restrictions.

A mix of single and double yellow lines and some resident permit bays will now be introduced in both, with pay and display bays in Chigwell Road too.

Anna Smith, of Hermon Hill, told the meeting of her difficulty in getting out of her driveway, because parked cars obstruct her view. She said: “It should help me. If people are not allowed to park there, I should be able to see.”

Following the meeting though, she expressed some reservations.

She said: “I thought the chair’s [Cllr Paul Canal] suggestion that the first half hour could be free parking for people to go into the shops was a very good idea.”

Cllr Canal raised concerns about the impact of parking measures on businesses.

Cllr Ian Bond said: “It’s a complex set of problems.

“We’ve gone through them all individually and as far as we can, where there were concerns, we’ve made changes.”
