Redbridge Council’s nature conservation team and naturalist Brian Ecott, who has his own website dedicated to Hainault Forest, led the educational tour of Claybury Park and Woods.

After meeting at the Claybury Park entrance in Roding Lane North, the group spent an hour-and-a-half examining the surrounding vegetation, with Mr Ecott teaching them about galls.

Mr Ecott taught the group how to identify them as well as lots of other interesting facts about the woodland.

They are outgrowths on trees and plants caused by parasites, from fungi and bacteria to insects and mites.

The conservation team organises regular walks and clean-up days around the borough.
