More Wanstead residents will get option of permit parking in response to trial scheme

More Wanstead residents will have the option to get permit parking as the knock-on effects of a trial scheme have come to light.

Since the introduction of an experimental permit parking zone in Addison, Chaucer, Dangan and Spratt Hall Roads in April, the following two area one committee meetings have been dominated by discussion of the results.

Proposals from the council’s highway services for surrounding roads were presented to last night’s meeting at Wanstead Church School, Church Path, Wanstead and councillors heard from residents keen to be considered.

Since July’s meeting, residents in Wanstead Place and Voluntary Place were consulted on proposals to ease parking over-spill there.

Julia Wildgoose, of Fitzgerald Road, told members: “Since the introduction of the permits, parking has become problematic.

“I found out about the consultation by chance and I was surprised that Fitzgerald Road and Church Path were left out.

“It doesn’t take a genius to work out the knock on effect.

“No-one expects to park right outside their house, but I think to park on your own street is fair.”

Cllr Sue Nolan said: “There’s no reason why we can’t [consult the two roads].

“It seems sensible.”

The committee also heard from Charles Norman, of Greenstone Mews, who queried a proposed introduction of double yellow lines.

Residents in Fitzgerald Road, Church Path and Greenstone Mews will now all be consulted on permit parking.

In Wanstead Place, residents will have a limited number of permit parking spaces.

The one hour parking ban on the north side and much of the unrestricted bay on the south side will remain.

And permit parking will also be introduced in parts of Voluntary Place.

Nigel Burch, of the council’s highway services, said: “The results of the consultation seem to be fairly strongly in favour of the proposals.”

Greg Eglin said the approach to parking in Snaresbrook and Wanstead couldn’t be piecemeal.

But he said: “The council officers should be congratulated for a solution that’s the best that could be done in the circumstances.”

Residents in Spratt Hall Road will be consulted on adding dual and triple use bays.
