Mayor Cllr Chris Cummins officially opened this year’s competition at Valentines Mansion last week, inviting residents and businesses to go head-to-head and produce the most impressive floral display.

Cllr Cummins said: “The displays in previous years have been magnificent and have helped to make Redbridge such a bright and colourful place to live.

“I am sure we will see the same high standard on display this year and I wish all competitors the best of luck”.

The annual gardening competition searches for the borough’s best flower displays, hanging baskets and communal gardens.

Last year, 45 people entered the competition and winners were picked for their good use of colour, use of high quality plants, and an impressive layout of flowers and shrubs.

The five categories are: best front garden; best container garden; best public house; best sheltered housing or care home display and the best community display.

Entry is free and applications must be received by July 1. Judging will take place from July 11 and winners will receive a certificate at a prize-giving ceremony later in the year.
