On “Super Saturday” Team GB’s medal wins included Jessica Ennis in the heptathlon, Mo Farah in the men’s 10,000 metres and Greg Rutherford in the men’s long jump.

The trio won their golds in the 80,000 capacity Stadium.

In the Velodrome the women’s team pursuit trio of Dani King, Laura Trott and Joanna Roswell set a world record in their event as well as winning a gold.

Team GB also won two medals at Eton Dorney. The men’s coxless fours of Andrew Triggs Hodge, Pete Reed, Tom James and Alex Gregory took the top spot in their event.

Just minutes later Kat Copeland and Sophie Hosking claimed gold in the lightweight event.

The wins left Great Britain third in the medal table with 29 - 14 gold, seven silver and eight bronze.

Away from Team GB, day eight of the Games saw athletes Oscar Pistorius and Usain Bolt compete in the Olympic Stadium, swimmer Michael Phelps win his 18th gold medal in the men’s 4x100m relay and Serena Williams win the women’s singles tennis.
