London 2012: Crowds in Redbridge welcome Olympic Torch

Crowds lined Barkingside High Street to welcome the Olympic Torch, despite the early hour.

Hundreds of people watched as the Flame was carried down the road, on its way to Valentine’s Mansion. Watch the torchbearer in Barkingside High Street in our video on this page.

Philippa Broer, 77, of Barkingside, was among those who lined the route. She said: “To see so many people turnout and so many different cultures is lovely.

“I was just a kid the last time the Olympics were here so i want to make the most of it now.”

Earlier this morning the Torch was rowed across Fairlop Lake. Later this morning it will visit Redbridge Town Hall, before heading to Barking and Dagenham.
