An Ilford pub has made playing with food an art form by recreating the famous Beatles Abbey Road album cover using breakfast food.

John, Paul, Ringo and George have suits made of bacon, sausages and scrambled eggs, walking on a white and brown toast crossing.

A spokesman said: “In keeping with his preference for vegetarian food, Paul McCartney was re-created entirely of mushrooms.”

Customers in the Red House Beefeater Grill, in Redbridge Lane East, voted the 1969 album cover as their favourite British image of all time.

A food sculptor then created the scene using traditional full English ingredients, along with fruit and pastries, to celebrate the launch of the pub’s new breakfast menu.
