Ilford ex-servicemen pay respects to dead Jewish soldiers

More than 150 people turned out for a remembrance day for Jewish soldiers killed in battle.
The service, held by the Ilford Jewish Association of Ex-Servicemen and Women on Sunday, included prayers and singing the national anthem.
Cllr Ashley Kissin said: “All the gentlemen there was standing very proud. It’s traditional in the month before the Jewish New Year to visit the cemetery to pay respects to those who have passed away.”
The cemetery includes a section specifically for former Jewish soldiers from all round the world.
Cll Kissin said: “It was a very sombre occasion. We remembered Jewish people killed in wars past and present.”
There were a number of ex-servicemen present, many of whom fought in the Second Worlds War. Chairman of the society, Leslie Temple, who fought in the bomber command, read the exaltation at the service.
