Mike McNeish, 18, is a member of Boyband, who have been picked by Diversity’s Ashley Banjo to be one of his acts on primetime Sky1 dance show Got to Dance.

Mike said: “It’s really exciting to know that we have got through and can’t wait to get on the stage and perform in front of everyone.”

Mike, Dylan Movoral, Michael Ureta, Jaih Betote and Corey Culverwell have been friends for five years and formed the group after training together at ZooNation dance company.

The 18-year-old has just finished sixth form at West Hatch High School in Chigwell and says the modern dance troupe – who have been dubbed the One Direction of dance – were excited about finding out if they had got through the auditions.

Mike said: “I haven’t been able to see my other friends really since the show as we’ve been so busy rehearsing but my family went crazy when they saw us on the telly and it gave me such a nice feeling seeing our group on there. It made all of the hard work worthwhile.”

Mike said the five had only been rehearsing their act for Got to Dance for a month before the audition. He said the group wanted to bring their different personalities to the stage.

Of the name Boyband, he said: “It’s a name that works well with the competition. We do have a boyband image.”

The boys are aiming for the top as they are competing for the grand prize of £250,000, which will be awarded to the winners at the end of the series.

Mike said: “We want to be remembered and we really want to hear our name called out at the finals.”
