Linda Pinder, 66, was on her way out of Sainsbury’s in Newbury Park after doing a grocery shop when she noticed something unusual.

She said: “At first I just saw the note and thought it was a flyer advertising something but then I looked at the car and my heart sunk.”

The front of the bonnet on the driver’s side had been crushed and the headlight was smashed.

A scrawled note left under a windscreen wiper read: “Apologies (school run). Please call me, Grace,” but the number written does not connect.

Linda said: “They looked like they were being a good citizen by putting a note on – someone must have seen them.

“I want to urge people to be a bit vigilant. If I’d seen that I would have taken down the registration.”

Linda, of Brocket Way, Hainault, believes the wrong number was left deliberately.

“I don’t know how much it’s going to cost to repair,” she added.

Although there is CCTV in the car park, in King George Avenue, Sainsbury’s staff told Linda cameras were not working on the day.

The crash happened between 3pm and 3.15pm on Friday March 21.
