Goodmayes residents oppose Barley Lane parking restrictions

Several Goodmayes residents strongly opposed new parking restrictions in Barley Lane aimed at improving safety.
Double yellow lines will be introduced along with new entry treatments on side roads, a zebra crossing, cycle lanes, slow markings, upgraded lighting and vehicle-activated speed signs after the committee approved the plans in January.
A possible one way system or no entry to Eccleston Crescent will be put to consultation.
But residents told councillors at the Area Five Committee meeting on Monday that many people did not understand that “any time waiting restrictions” meant double yellow lines.
Martin Hughes said stopping all parking in Barley Lane would “push the problem sideways” into nearby roads.
He suggested the council contact King George and Goodmayes Hospital about staff parking.
Other residents were concerned about how to park their own cars without drives, visiting relatives and friends and the value of their homes without on-street parking.
Highways engineering manager Matthew Grey said the changes would start in Barley Lane next week.
