The council leader has strongly hinted council tax could be frozen for a further two years, before adding he is keen to reduce it eventually.
Speaking at Thursday’s council meeting, Cllr Keith Prince (Conservative, Barkingside) responded to a question from the public gallery.
He said: “I think it is fair to say in the budget that we will have a further two years of freezing council tax - I think that is going to happen.
Redbridge Council approved a council tax freeze for a fifth year running at a budget meeting on March 6.
The council leader added he was proud that despite freezing council tax for a fifth year running, and the council were still able to invest in proposals such as weekly street cleaning.
“I will look to commit to cutting council tax, I think that is something we can all aspire too,” he said, before highlighting the example of Hammersmith and Fulham Borough council, which announced a three per cent reduction to bills.
