Dan Harris, 28, of Waterloo Road, Barkingside helped develop the council’s website Redbridge i over a number of years as part of its web team.

He died after his bike collided with an “Olympic” coach at about 7.40pm in Ruckholt Road (A106), junction with the East Cross Route (A12), Hackney Wick.

Mr Harris was pronounced dead at the scene at 8.14pm and a post-mortem was due to take place today.

Roger Hampson, chief executive of Redbridge Council, said, “Redbridge Council was deeply saddened to hear of the death of former staff member Dan Harris, who worked on the council’s website for several years.

“He had many close friends in the council and will be much missed. Our thoughts are with his family and many friends at this difficult time.”

Deputy council leader Cllr Ian Bond took to social networking website Twitter to add his own tribute.

He wrote: “Truly tragic loss of former Redbridge employee Dan Harris, one of the team that helped create Redbridge-i.”

Mr Harris attended Ilford County High School in Fremantle Road, Barkingside, before going to the University of Plymouth to study ocean science.

He was working for a printing company in Shoreditch and on his website he said he enjoyed cycling, rock climbing, kayaking and running.

He had recently used his Twitter account to update followers on bike rides he had completed.

The collision is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police’s Road Death Investigation Unit.

Anyone with information on the accident should call 020 8597 4874, or to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
