Dr David Forbes, 63, of Clayhall, was presented with the gong for his “exemplary work” and having “a positive impact” on the lives of offenders and his colleagues.

Dr Forbes’ career took him across the southeast of England where he worked as manager and a research manager within the community.

He said: “I was pretty thrilled because it was nice to recognised for my work.

“I have retired since then so I guess it is perfect ending to my career.”

Dr Forbes has a doctorate in social work acquired from Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust in north-west London.

Dr Forbes added he hoped to continue assisting the probation service.

“I hope they can make use of my knowledge and expertise.

“It is quite a challenging time for the service.”

Rabbi David Hulbert, of Bet Tikvah Synagogue, Perrymans Farm Road, Newbury Park, said: “I am immensely proud of David’s achievement - it is nice to retire on nice note.

“He is a quiet and humble man.”
