Fires in the borough have reached their lowest point in ten years, according to new figures released today by the London Fire Brigade.

The figures show that last year the number of fires in the borough fell to 785, around two fires a day compared with 1,292 fires in 2001.

Similarly, the figures show that the overall number of incidents firefighters in Redbridge attend has fallen by almost a quarter to 2,666 - around seven a day.

This includes call outs to road traffic collisions, false alarms and non-emergency calls.

Borough commander, Steve Brown, said: “These figures show that people in Redbridge are less likely to have a fire than ever before and local residents are far safer as a result.

“The London Fire Brigade has targeted those people who are more likely to have a fire and provided them with potentially life saving advice and smoke alarms and people in Redbridge are really benefiting from the hard work of our of firefighters.”
