Every step you take in Wanstead from September 15 will reveal wonderful art works as the third annual Art Trail returns.

Olympics artist Teresa Witz, who has painted portraits of rower Mark Hunter and Paralympians Oscar Pistorius and British medal winner David Weir, will open the trail at the United Reformed Church, Grosvenor Road, Wanstead on September 15.

For 16 days, 200 local artists will show their works in 75 venues in Wanstead, including pubs, restaurants and churches, with the public able to view paintings at their leisure.

Organiser Donna Mizzi, of Rectory Crescent, Wanstead, said: “We want people from all over Redbridge to come along and enjoy the trail at their own pace and see what Wanstead offers.”

Teresa is a member of organising group Art Group Wanstead (AGW) and has attended arts lessons in Wanstead and Leytonstone.

She painted 10 full-size portraits of athletes which were shown at Heathrow Airport during the Games and will welcome guests for an open day at the church from 11am.

There will be demonstrations of stained glass art and drawing and a chance to try out beading, decoupage and paper flower making.

On September 16, pottery classes will be held in The Corner House, Grove Park.

During the trail, works will be displayed in venues including Majestic Wine, Images in Frames and restaurant L’Infinito in the High Street and at Wanstead House Community Association in The Green and The Corner House.

Pubs including The George and The Cuckfield in High Street and The Nightingale in Nightingale Lane will get in on the act.

Guest artists selected to take part are Eamon Everall, who takes classes at Wanstead House and is a founder member of the Stuckist art movement, Janet McKay and Martin Jones.

Mr Everall said: “In my experience, this is one of the best art trails around due to its compactness, locality and the sensibilities of its participants.”

There are no entry charges and AGW is encouraging people to give donations at venues.
