The money will go towards the rebuilding of Kafwefwe School in Zambia which serves more than 300 children, has no running water and is built from clay bricks.

Students at Loxford School of Science and Technology, Loxford Lane, Ilford raised the money by holding bake sales and a raffle.

Year 13 student Rebab Saheb, 17, said: “I took part in this project as I like to help other people.

“I thought it was really important that people in Zambia get access to water. I enjoyed watching other children wanting to help buy supplying and buying cakes.”

A total of 12 bake sales and a raffle which raised £1,520.

Loxford School worked on the new school project with charity Peer Education Programme against AIDS.
