Long queues are stretching the length of the A406 in Redbridge after a mobile crane toppled on to its side, leaving a man with a serious head injury.

The man, believed to be 60 and the driver of the vehicle, was injured in Hertford Road, Barking, at around 12.40pm today.

He has been taken to the major trauma centre at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.

Tailback are stretching the length of the A406 between Barking and Ilford, with congestion reported as far back as the Charlie Brown’s roundabout in South Woodford.

The M11 is also affected as the accident scene is made safe.

The mobile crane has come to rest on a grass verge alongside Hertford Road, crushing part of a guardrail.
