Callie Watts, 15, from Ewellhurst Road, Clayhall, made it to the grand final of the competition and was then crowned Miss 2014 model of the year for the junior title over the weekend.

She said: “It was such an amazing feeling knowing that I won and I am really proud of myself for doing so well.”

Callie started modelling when she was three-years-old, working as a catalogue model for stores such as Woolworths and did so until she was 10 and the work started to fizzle out.

But this passion was soon ignited again as for one of her friends’ birthday parties, she went to photographer Nick Beckley’s studio, where he held make over shoots for teens.

Nick said: “When she was in front of the camera, she just looked like she knew exactly what she was doing and I knew from then she was something a little special, so I asked if I could work with her to help her develop more as a model.”

Callie has since been working with Nick for three years but only recently started up his modelling company, 12-18 model management.

He said: “She made me think that I could work with other teen models so without her, this company probably wouldn’t exist!”

Nick who then brought up the idea of Callie taking part in the Miss 2014 model of the year competition and she was more than happy to do it.

She said: “I have always watched shows like toddlers and tiaras and wanted to do something like that but I knew those sort of shows in America weren’t for me. But when I got to the pageant it wasn’t really like that so I enjoyed it a lot more.”

The competition involved an interview where she had to tell the judges a bit more about herself, a party dress round where she chose a black number with wedges, and another round where the finalists had to design a charity T-shirt for which Callie chose the British Heart Foundation as relatives of hers have had heart conditions.

But the teen really shone in the evening gown round with her floor length mint green dress that she bought from Dagenham market.

Callie said: “I don’t really like the glitzy side of shows so wanted to go on the stage as myself rather than someone else.”

But tears came to her eyes as she was told she won the title of Miss 2014 model of the year as well as award for best hair, presenting her with a crown and sash.

She said: “I would love to go into the business but I do know how hard it is. Hopefully I’ll get to where I want to be one day.”
