Chadwell Heath schoolchildren get nature area thanks to community generosity

A Chadwell Heath school now has a new outdoor conservation area thanks to pupils, parents and the community.
Children at Barley Lane Primary School raised £500 with a non-uniform day to turn the disused bramble patch into a wildlife haven.
The Friends of Barley Lane Primary also donated funds, along with building company Dudley’s, Wickes and the Tranquility Aquatic Centre in Chadwell Heath.
Deputy head teacher Victoria Ballantyne said: “We are all delighted with the result – what a transformation!
“It’s really been a fantastic example of the local community coming together to make a real difference.”
The area will be used as an outdoor classroom for children to learn about wildlife with pond dipping, birdwatching and building bug hotels and amphibian rockeries.
