Members recommended the public convenience in the park in Aldborough Road South, which attracts a variety of sports teams, school groups and residents, be opened to the public.

A member of Seven Kings Users’ Group said: “In a short time the users’ group has made some improvements to the park including planting trees and litter picking. But our number one concern is public convenience.

“Elderly people used to enjoy the park but they are now reluctant to venture far due to a lack of toilets.”

The group would also like to apply for Green Flag status but is unable to do so without the toilets being reopened.

Cllr Sue Nolan, a Conservative councillor for Snaresbrook ward, added: “Discussions on this matter started in 2011 and we have at no stage closed any other toilets.”

She added: “I would strongly recommend this as it means so much to residents and I think we should try to get this completed in time for the summer holidays.”
