The London Ambulance Service was called to Gants Hill Library, in Cranbrook Road, at 12.20pm to reports of a collision.

The child was treated by one crew, an advanced paramedic and a single responder before being taken to the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, with foot and leg injuries.

Michael Green, 68, of Headley Drive, in Gants Hill, said: “I had come out from the underground station at about 1.05 or 1.10pm and saw five or six police vehicles on the road - you couldn’t miss it.

“The road had been taped off around the scene of the incident.”

Mr Green said he saw the police investigation unit join the other officers at approximately 1.20pm.

He added: “I hope whatever happened that this child is not too badly injured.”

Following the incident, Cranbrook Road was blocked southbound towards Gants Hill Roundabout and a single alternate flow was directed by the police.

The road is now fully open.

Mr Green said he has had concerns about the safety of the road for some time and believes the pedestrian crossing outside the library may be faulty.

Redbridge police are investigating the collision and have not made any arrests so far.

Anyone with information is urged to call 101.
