Students at Redbridge College, Little Heath, Barley Lane showcased their singing, dancing and poetry skills last Thursday.

The competition was won by 18-year-old Bollywood dancer Gurpreet Singh Suraj.

He said: ““I was quite nervous before going on stage as it was my first ever solo performance but the audience was amazing. I just wanted to entertain people, and for them to feel the energy and passion of Bollywood and bhangra.”

Gurpreet, who studies English at the college, created his own music and choreographed his own routine.

He was voted the winner by a packed live audience.

He said: “I didn’t expect a British audience to like an Indian style of music as much. To win was an unbelievable experience for me.”

The college raised more than £350 which was matched by Barclays Bank, in High Road, Chadwell Heath bringing the total to £758.64.

Jacie Allen from Barcklays said: ““It was a fantastic night and for such a good cause. The level of talent was amazing.”
