Barkingside jewellery shop fire being treated as ‘suspicious’

About 30 firemen were called to a fire which broke out in a flat above a jewellery shop in Barkingside this morning.

Six fire engines were called to the Allen Irving Jewellers in High Street at 1.45am.

There were no casualties but the incident is being treated as suspicious and there is an ongoing joint investigation by the police and fire services.

A fire brigade spokesman said the fire was brought under control very quickly.
