An oral history project charting the road to equal rights for same sex couples living and working in Redbridge is coming to the borough.
“Being Civil in Redbridge” will share stories from more than 1,800 interviews and 24,000 photographs of London’s diverse communities this month at three different venues.
The heritage lottery-funded project was put together by Eastside Community Heritage and Redbridge Rainbow Community, both in High Road, Ilford.
Claire Days, 31, from the Eastside Community Heritage, said: “The reason for the project is to primarily raise awareness - this is a large sector of the community and they are not necessarily getting the recognition they deserve.
“It has been absolutely amazing project to work on. The power of the stories shared with us have been incredible - deeply emotional stories.”
“Being Civil in Redbridge” comes to Gants Hill Library, in Cranbrook Road on Monday, Redbridge Central Library in Clements Road the following day and on February 19 to South Woodford Library, in High Road, South Woodford.
