Mabel Laal, of Woodford Green, suffered serious injuries after a Renault Clio driven by an elderly man, believed to be her husband, drove into Rupert’s Upholstery in Victoria Road on May 23.

She was taken to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, east London, but died from her injuries on June 7.

The man was treated at the same hospital for minor injuries.

A post mortem at East Ham Mortuary on June 12 gave the cause of death as pulmonary oedema caused by multiple injuries.

An inquest opened and adjourned at Walthamstow Coroners’ Court on June 13.

The car crashed into the shop’s front window at about 1.30pm and Victoria, Chigwell and Albert Roads were closed until 8.38pm.

Rupert’s Upholstery remains closed following the accident.

Officers from the Met’s Road Death Investigation Unit are investigating the crash and no arrests have been made.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or the moments leading up to it, can contact the unit on 0208 597 4874.
