The injured woman was a passenger in a black Volkswagen Golf which is believed to have been pulling out of Newbury Park underground station at around 9pm. It was involved in a collision with a black Volkswagen Bora V5.

Andy Denmark, a firefighter at Woodford fire station, said the passenger side door of the Golf was “crunched in” and had to be cut away.

It took around 20 minutes to take the woman out of the car and she was taken to Whipps Cross Hospital with leg injuries, which were not believed to be serious.

The Golf’s driver, also a woman in her early 20s, was not injured and no-one was injured in the other car.

Westbound traffic on the road was reduced to one lane for one hour following the accident.
