Newbury Park synagogue member is Saint Francis Hospice’s volunteer of the year

A volunteer who has dedicated a quarter of a century of service to Saint Francis Hospice has been recognised as Volunteer of the Year.
Evelyn Dalton was presented with a glass trophy at the Help the Hospices conference in Manchester on Friday.
The awards were sponsored by the National Gardens Scheme (NGS) and Mrs Dalton impressed judges with her contribution to the hospice.
Mrs Dalton, a member of South West Essex & Settlement Reform Synagogue, Oaks Lane, Newbury Park, said: “The award was really unexpected. I enjoy volunteering and don’t do it for the recognition, but I’m honoured to receive this accolade.”
She first came into contact with the hospice, in Havering-atte-Bower, in 1986 when her husband’s stepmother received care there.
