Kevin Clarke, 51, of Clintons Property Management in Stainforth Road, set off on August 26 from Marble Arch to the French capital, completing 98 miles on the first day.

Over the following three days, he and friend Gavin Hall pedalled their way towards the Arc de Triomphe which they reached on August 29.

Mr Clarke said: “It wasn’t a walk in the park. The first day was probably the hardest.

“We didn’t go on main roads so we saw the beautiful French countryside.

“The French drivers were very courteous.”

After his challenge, he said he would do it again, though not until next year.

Mike Crocker, the vice-chairman of Redbridge Chamber of Commerce, said the business group was proud of Mr Clarke’s achievement.
