Redbridge Council previously announced that a new £4million pool would be completed just in time for summer at the end of May.

But before you rush to reach for your cosie and googles, the administration has announced that building work at Mayfield Leisure Centre, Pedley Road, hasn’t gone completely smooth sailing.
Residents will still be able to enjoy a new six-lane 25-metre pool with spectator seating, a multi-purpose studio, and a 40 station hi-tech gym but it won’t be for another couple of weeks.
Leader of the council, councillor Jas Athwal said: “Whilst the previous completion date was indeed scheduled for May, it had become necessary to move this due to some additional external works to the facility.
“Whilst we would like the earliest possible completion, a few extra weeks means we finish it properly.
“This means the revised completion date is the end of June.
“The works are closely monitored by the council’s project team on a weekly basis and the contractor is making good progress.”
Redbridge Council invested £4M in the centre, with an additional National Lottery award of £750,000 from the Sport England Strategic Facilities Fund.
The complex will be operated by Vision, the council’s leisure partner who are developing a programme to meet the needs of the community.
It will be open to the public from 7am to 10pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 6pm at weekends.
A range of classes from Yoga to Box-fit, Zumba to Body Max will be on offer alongside specialist sessions for youth fitness and active lifestyles.
Director of property at Sport England, Charles Johnston, said: “Thanks to £750,000 of National Lottery funding, people living in Mayfield will have a top quality sports facilities right on their doorsteps.
“Offering a brand new pool and a high tech gym, it will deliver a quality experience to both Mayfield students and the wider community.
“I wish Redbridge Council, Mayfield School and Vision Redbridge every success when the new centre opens.”
