Pupils from Mayespark Primary School, Goodmayes Lane, Ilford, took part in Marie Curie’s mini pots of care challenge, which involved growing daffodils in pots they could decorate.

The children paid £2 each for a daffodil kit which included a bulb, plant pot, soil disk, pot wrapper and planter stick.

They had to grow the daffodils at home over a period of six weeks and got to choose a design to put on their flower pots.

“We put them all on the table and chose the ones that were the best,” said assistant headteacher Esther Quinney.

“The kids really loved it.”

Sweets were given out as prizes for the best designs.

Esther praised the challenge for helping to allow the children to learn about looking after plants.

Registration for the mini pots of care fundraiser has now closed but will open again in May.
